India displayed their dominance on the second day of the fifth test match against England at Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamshala. Team India ended the second day on a mammoth score of 473 with a loss of 8 wickets. The team has put such a big total on the scorecard because of the centuries by captain Rohit Sharma and Shubhman Gill. Gill is the highest run scorer till now and he made his 5th Test Century. This century by Gill was special as his father Lakhvinder Singh was watching his son batting from the stands. Despite scoring the century, he expressed some disappointment with Shubhman’s new batting position.

Lakhvinder Singh said that his son should have continued to open in Tests. He said when a batter sits longer in the dressing room the pressure starts to build in him. He also said that the number three position is neither an opening nor a middle order. Lakhvinder further said that Shubhman does not play like a number three batter, it is someone suited like Cheteshwar Pujara.

“He should have continued to open. It is not right at all I feel. When you sit in the dressing room for longer, the pressure tends to increase. Number 3 spot is not opening neither is it is middle-order spot,” Lakhvinder Singh said. “Plus his game is not like that, it suits the like of Cheteshwar Pujara who has a defensive game. When the ball is new you get more loose balls, when you come in after 5-7 overs, the ball is still shiny and the bowler is also settled with his length,” Gill’s father added. However, Lakhvinder also said that he does not interfere in his son’s decisions, and did so only when he was a teenager.

“I don’t interfere in his decisions, I just train with him. He is old enough to make his own decisions. I made decisions on his behalf only when he was a teenager”, he said.

Indian Team has secured a match-winning lead of 255 runs at the end of day two. Jasprit Bumrah and Kuldeep Yadav are two batters currently at the crease.
