Virat Kohli has to perform very well to make his way for the T20 World Cup squad. Then Telegraph has reported, that the selectors are not keen on picking Virat as the management believes he has failed to cope with the team’s needs in the T20 format.
Virat Kohli has not played any T20
Virat Kohli has not played any T20 internationals since the T20 World Cup 2022, however, the selectors picked him in the squad for the Afghanistan T20I series along with Rohit Sharma, which clearly indicated that both he and Rohit would be part of the T20 World Cup squad. Later, at the event in Rajkot, Board Secretary Jay Shah confirmed Rohit Sharma as the captain for the T20 World Cup, however, he didn’t make any comments when asked about Virat Kohli’s T20I future.
According to a report in The Telegraph, the BCCI has assigned again Chief Selector Ajit Agarkar the responsibility for selecting Kohli, considering it a sensitive matter that few are willing to engage in. Agarkar held a discussion with Kohli regarding the necessity for a shift in approach in T20Is, which Kohli endeavored to implement during the T20I series against Afghanistan, but did not achieve much success in terms of scoring runs.
Slow pitches of West Indies
The management feels that the slow wickets of West Indies are not going to suit Kohli thus Chief Selector will have a word with Kohli and try to convince him to make way for the younger lots. The management feels that youngsters like Suryakumar Yadav, Tilak Varma, Rinku Singh Shivam Dube, and others who have performed well in IPL have a lot more to offer in the T20I format.
The first week of May will announce the team.
