Following the Central Contract announced by BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) and the Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan removal, two young international players. BCCI has sent a strong message to those players who are skipping domestic cricket.
This decision has come after the two didn’t appear for their state sides in the ongoing Ranji Trophy, despite the strong instruction by the board secretary Jay Shah. Iyer blamed a niggle for not playing for Mumbai, and Ishan was taking a break due to mental fatigue. Ishan Kishan has been out of competitive cricket since the South Africa tour.
The board secretary made the decision not to let the two players participate in the Ranji Trophy after discussing it with the selectors. The national team included Shreyas Iyer for the first two tests against England, but due to poor performance, he was dropped and he complained of a niggle.Ishan Kishan was expected to join the Jharkhand team for the Ranji Trophy, but he was training with Hardik Pandya in Vadodara and didn’t report at the National Cricket Academy (NCA).
This move by the board is an indication to all the contracted players that if they want to play for India then Domestic Cricket is a must. Ahead of the series against England, someone asked head coach Rahul Dravid a question about Ishan Kishan, to which he replied that Kishan has to play domestic cricket before being considered for selection.
The respective franchises in the IPL will feature both players, and they will only be considered for selection in the national team when they participate in domestic cricket.
