‘Emergency time in India’ web series filming is disrupted on campus by the JNU students union

The JNU students’ union interfered with a web series filming on the topic of “Emergency period in India” on Saturday, despite the administration’s statement that it had authorised the filming to occur on campus.

Permission was asked to be known why film was granted at the administration block while students are not allowed to protest there by the JNUSU. The web series being filmed on campus at the administration block was opposed by them, calling it the “commercialization” of university space.

PTI was informed by a top source that for the past two days, over 500 crew members have been stationed on campus to set up production facilities for the web series on the Emergency period in India.

“The JNUSU attempted to eject film director Sudhir Mishra from the JNU campus and engaged in unlawful obstruction. The official stated, “The film director has obtained the necessary authorization from the JNU authorities to film a web series about the emergency era in India.

The production manager of the online series Amar claimed, in an interview with PTI, “We were filming a scene near the administration block when a large group of students assembled and started disrupting.” Additionally, they insulted our staff and director Sudhir Mishra with derogatory remarks. We had to  put an end to the gunfire.”

Mishra did not provide an immediate response to the accusation.The director attempted to have conversations with the students who were against the web series and persuade them that it was not against the varsity, according to the production manager. The kids persisted in interfering with the shooting, nevertheless.

JNUSU President’s Response and Request

“We are not against the web series or its team,” stated Dhananjay, president of the Jawaharlal Nehru University Students Union (JNUSU), in response to the accusation.”However, we will not permit any form of commercialization to occur on campus,” he stated to PTI, and requested that the management reimburse the money they collected for permitting the shooting.

In an email to JNU Vice Chancellor, the student union questioned why the administration allowed shooting within a 100-meter radius of the campus while prohibiting students from holding protests in that area.

We have learned that the administration block is the site of a Sudhir Mishra movie shoot. The email continued, saying that students who attempt to stage protests will face consequences, adding, “Knowing that this is the same place where students cannot gather to raise their rightful demands is horrifying.”
